Due to a high demand, we have closed our waiting list for volunteers and not currently taking any new applications. Thank you for your interest. We are pleased that you are interested in working with us and have put together the following information for prospective volunteers, giving an overview of the organisation and the volunteer service. Women’s Aid prides itself on the development of all its staff and volunteers, and is offering potential volunteers a structured training programme, with ongoing support and supervision. Please note that we can only accept applicants from women, Section 7 [2] of 1975 Sex Discrimination Act applies.
The organisation seeks to attract female volunteers from the general public and ex-service users, who can contribute the work of WALL, having regard to the overall aims and ethos of the organisation. The aim of the volunteer scheme is to provide volunteers with the training and support to further their work experience, personal development and, where appropriate, access education and training. Opportunities exist in the three core service areas of the organisation, and there are also additional opportunities for women to work within administrative support or to undertake fundraising for WALL.
All Volunteers will be expected to share the philosophy of Women's Aid and comply with the volunteer guidelines. An application form and equal opportunities form can be found in the ‘Volunteer Information Pack’ (see below), this needs to be printed off, completed and returned. Once we have received your form you will be invited in for an informal interview and, if successful references and CRB check will be sent for. There is a ‘core’ training programme for volunteers and your place will be secured on the next available course. Upon successful completion of the course, and return of satisfactory references and CRB, you will be able to start in your role as volunteer. To ensure that the organisation’s equal opportunities policy is in operation, all volunteer recruitment is monitored.
All volunteers are asked to offer a minimum of six months of service/availability; this ensures the maximum benefit from the opportunities that are available. The ‘core’ volunteer training programme is an important part of volunteering at Women’s Aid Leicestershire Limited and attendance on the course is a requirement for all volunteers. The overall aim of the training is to provide volunteers with a good understanding of the issues that surround domestic abuse, the ethos and working practices of the organisation, and the practical skills to undertake the work. The training course is well structured and delivered at a high standard; it is currently a 30 hour programme covering a wide range of areas. Volunteers must attend a minimum of nine sessions to pass the training element of the recruitment process. Certificates of training are provided once the course has been successfully completed. There is ongoing support and supervision to enable volunteers to develop and become confident in the work they undertake as volunteers. There are usually two core training courses a year and the dates for the next training course will be announced on the site at a later stage. If you would like to apply to be a volunteer at Women’s Aid Leicestershire Limited please download file below: Volunteer Information Pack.
